The Smurfs Movie Review

The Smurfs is a classic fusion of traditional fairy tales and the latest animations/3D effects. The movie targets the audience of a very specific age group i.e. ages 5-10. The younger kids will not be able understand and the elder ones will neither find the comedy scenes comical nor the adventurous scenes thrilling.

The story consists of a few (small and blue) magical creatures living in a far away land. One day their village is attacked by an evil sorcerer and while escaping from him, they come across a portal which brings them to our world (in New York). Here they come across a married couple expecting a baby and start living in their house. Now, their lives get tangled as The Smurfs help the man to retain his job (accidentally) and he helps The Smurfs fight the evil sorcerer and get back to their own world.

There are a very few things people will like to watch in the movie and they too are not much impressive:
1.       Songs – There are a couple of songs which are quite good and their timing in the movie is all the more better which makes them quite likable.
2.       Animations/3D effects – Both have been very good but at very few and specific places. One such place is the final battle.

Despite the above couple of things, there is not much to watch in the movie, but a few things which have been the most disappointing are:
1.       Story: It is kept specific to a very small audience (ages 5-10) and they too will not appreciate it much.
2.       Screenplay: Not much has been done in this department either. This is mainly due to the story, which does not leave the screenplay writer with much to do.

Overall, it is good one time watch for some specific audience, who like such movies. I rate it as follows:
Entertainment rating: 3
Critic’s rating: 2.5
